Hi Dr. Braverman,

My name is Dionne and I am 41 years old. I just completed my second round of IVF which I believe is going to be the same unfortunate result - chemical pregnancy. My first IVF cycle was last October. For this cycle I used my own eggs and donor sperm. The only retrieved 7 eggs and 3 fertilized. All 3 resulted in top quality embryos. They did a day 3 transfer with all 3 embryos. My at my initial pregnancy test, beta HCG level was around 20 and fell to below 5 at the second test.

For the most recent cycle, I decided to use frozen donor egg and donor sperm, just in case my eggs were the issue. I am from CT and traveled to RBA in Georgia for the transfer. Before procedure the doctor wanted to do a Recurring Pregnancy Loss Panel to make sure there were no obstacles before this cycle. The results were normal, there seemed to be no issues. They transferred 2 top quality embryos on Day 5. Again, I just received the same phone call yesterday, my level is again at 20. I took a HPT this morning which came up negative, so I am not holding out hope for my follow up blood test on Monday.

I can't understand why I can get pregnant each time but not seem to hold the pregnancy past 4 weeks, is it my age? I don't know what else, if anything I can do. Do you think there is any hope for me to carry my own child?

Thank you,
Dionne

There is certainly a component with your age but it should not be your only problem. It would be wise to rule out other issues as well to be sure when you make the good embryo it will hold.
Remember when you use donor egg your age is not an issue so even more reason to look for other issues.
Im sure this can be treated, call me and set up a consult and we can begin to dissect your problems.
