Dear Dr. Braverman,
I recently just suffered from my 6th miscarriage. I have had 3 failed IVF cycles and with all of the chemical pregnancies my progesterone was extremely low at 2.0. This is my 2nd marriage and with my first, I had 2 chemical and now with my current spouse, I've had 4 chemical. We have done a lot of testing and they have suggested that it must be my eggs even though I have always produced 20+ during IVF treatments. Now after this loss, they are saying that we should try donor eggs since I am 39. There are no issues with my husband so I know it is something with me. I have been taking metformin since they think I have PCOS and I had a laparoscopy in 1998 which revealed endometriosis. I just need a second opinion before I think about a donor.

Thank you

Dr. Braverman

I see patient with your history quite commonly , and many do not need donor egg. The places to look are in the stimulation protocols(many times in patients making many eggs its the mitotic division of the egg during stimulation and after trigger that are the critical factors in determining egg quality) in other words you start out with good eggs but after stimulation they are not good.
Patients with hx of endometriosis have issues such as oxidative stress that can affect egg quality and this to can be treated.
lastly there are immunologic interactions in patients with PCOS that can also affect egg quality .
Please schedule a consultation with me and give me a chance to look everything over before you committ to donor egg. you are correct that at 39 and with production of so many eggs its unlikely that you will need donor.
I look forward to speaking with you.
