Hi Dr Braverman. My wife is getting an endometrial biopsy done to check for uterine nk activity, cytokines, etc. There appears to be some debate over the "best" timing of the biopsy when checking for nk & cytokines specifically.

In your opinion, when is the best time during my wife's cycle to have the biopsy (for nks & cytokines) performed? A few days prior to her next period? A week prior to her next period? Or a week to ten days after ovulation?

Hoping you can help. Thanks.

Stephen

ok several things are important here. which lab is performing the analyis, what exact cells are they looking for. if done well day 21 is the best time to do this(or documented 7 days post ovulation).

Thanks for your quick response.

The only lab we know of to process the sample is in San Jose CA. They apparently test uterine nks and cytokines on a regular basis. This is what my wife will be tested for.

Is there another lab you would recommend? Please let us know what our options are.

Thanks.

I was not aware of anyone testing for cytokines on endometrial biopsies. Which group is this. Im not a fan yet of NK analysis by biopsy as it tells you nothing about the function , but there may be some benefit with cytokines if they are testing the right ones.
