Dear Dr. Braverman,

I’ll be 38 this July. I had tried to conceive naturally for about 2 years without success. Then, I went through 2 IVFs. The first one was in Sept. 2009. I had 10 eggs retrieved, and 8 fertilized. Only 2 developed into blastocysts. I transferred one. My HCG at day 14 was 14. It ended up a bio-chemical pregnancy. The second one was in Mar. 2010. Again 10 eggs retrieved. I transfered 3 embroys on day-3, and none of the rest developed to blastocyst. My HCG at day 14 was 25. But I lost (miscarried?) them in just a couple of days.

Then I started Chinese herbal treatment since May 2010. There are different prescriptions during different times of a cycle. I continued for about 3 months, and I decided to give it a try. I got naturally conceived in just one single try. However, my HCG did not double very well. I stayed in hospital and kept using progesterone and HCG trying to maintain pregnancy. But there was not even a heart beat, and I had a D&C on day 69.

The chromosome test after the D&C came back fine. I also had many tests done before and after the last pregnancy. Most of the tests came back normal. The only severe problem was in “blocking antibodies”. The test was done in Asia. And CD3, CD4 and CD8 were all negative. According to my doctor, they should be positive and this could be the reason for my recurrent fetal loss. Another test was on ACA, which was positive before my last pregnancy, but now becomes negative in a recent test (is it an indication that I’m improving?) .

I’m still running many other tests, but it does not seem that my current infertility specialist has a good method to treat me. He said there is no easy treatmet for lack of blockig antibodies. He prescribed me with high dosage of frolic acid (Foltx) saying that it may help me with blocking antibody deficiency. But I’m not sure if it’ll work.

What would be your opinion Dr. Braverman? I do not live around NYC, but I hope to become your patient, as you are an infertility immunologist. As I’m almost 38, my biological clock is ticking fast, and I cannot afford to wait for a long time…

Thank you!

Dr. Braverman

First therae are many excellent treatments for failure to produce "blocking antibodies" if indeed this is yoru problem. As we mention on the website, many who have normal pregnancies also come up "negative" on this test. So it is important to first rule out all other issues before setting out to treat this deficiency.
I would be happy to help you, please call our office and schedule a consultation, ask for Kim . Or fill out the consult request form on the website. I can order my testing from anywhere in the world and then design a plan that will be tailored to your problem, and again all these issues CAN be treated.
I look forward to speaking with you.
