Dear dr. Braverman,
I was diagnosed ANA positive (repeatedly) in immunofluorescence test (I was told it is probably in correlation with my autoimmune thyreoiditis). When tested for different antigens (with western blott test) all of them were always negative.
I have been using 5 mg od prednisone (started before conception). At the moment I am 14 weeks pregnant. My gyn/ob tested me for CMV virus in 13th week and found signs of reactivation (IgM and IgG positive, in the past I had only IgG positive). I have no signs of infection.
I wanted to ask wether is it safe to continue in corticoid treatment at this situation or should I rather stop it, or cut the dose to half maybe?
How long should the treatment in ANA positive patients normally last (I found various recommendations, one saying 1st trimester is enough as said my former immunologist, other that it is better to continue till the end of 24 th week as said my current immunologist).
Thank you very much for your answers.
Best regards,
Karla

I would check with the lab as this is most likely a lab technique issue where the IGG spills over to the IGM and it is not a "reactivation" . Again I havent seen any of your results so the final decision must rest with your doctor.
