High Histamines Late in Pregnancy Dangerous DAO Helps Reduce Them

Literature has shown that a defect in the gene that breaks down histamine in pregnancy DAO is critical in preventing many complications in pregnancy such as toxemia, IUGR (Intrauterine growth restriction), IUFD (intra uterine fetal demise), between 16weeks and full term. It seems that as histamine levels rise late in pregnancy so does the activity of this important enzyme that breaks down histamine. If this DAO (doamine oxidase) enzyme is deficient then histamine levels remain high and all of the above problems are at significantly increased risk. In fact levels of DAO have been found to be significantly decreased in mothers with all of the above problems, and measuring the activity of this enzyme (not commercially available at this time, but of course we are working on it) may help detect those at risk and also offer hope for treatment by replacing this enzyme in those deficient.
