Hello! Is it safe to take Resveratrol, Evening Primrose Oil, and Pycnogenol during pregnancy? I have found medical websites that strongly advise against taking Resveratrol during pregnancy due to the anti-growth properties it contains that may affect the growth of a pregnancy. I have found insufficient online information concerning Pycnogenol. Some say it's fine while other say there have not been enough tests to support safely taking it during pregnancy. I have read online that Evening Primrose Oil can induce labor and therefore may possibly terminate a pregnancy early, and that flaxseed oil should be taken instead until 34 weeks gestation. I am more interested in what you have to say about these supplements during pregnancy as you have not steered me wrong before. Thanks Dr. B!

there is no hard data on these supplements only theories. For that reason I say the following , stop them once you are pregnany(I dont see a problem with flaxseed) but dont worry if you had been taking them and was not told to stop. Many of my patients have informed me that they did not stop them after pregnancy(for fear of loosing the pregnancy) and I have not observed any problems. but again when in doubt you should just stop them as most of the benefits have already been gained(i.e. acheiving a successful pregnancy).
