Do you feel that the MTHFR and PAI-1 mutation testing should be done as part of all thrombosis testing for recurrent miscarriages? Also, is it necessary to test for a MTHFR mutation with normal (around 8) homocysteine levels?

yes I think both should be part of your workup . There have been studies that have shown early loss due to MTFHR even with normal homocystiene, but I dont personally think this is a very significant issue but at the same time you should always have all of the necessary information in front of you before you decide on any treatment.

Wouldn't extra folic acid be what was needed for the MTHFR? Also, if it's not significant why test for it? I do have a mutation for prothrombin, so treatment for the prothrombin mutation would treat for any possible mutation regarding MTHFR and PAI-1, would it not?

yes once you already know you will be on lovenox then I agree no need for addtional testing as it will not change your management. I prefer Metanx for the MTFHR.

Is the Metanx in place of a prenatal?
