Hi Dr. Braverman,

I read your email this morning that contained the article discussing MTHFR mutations and autism risk.

I tested as follows:
Compound heterozygous for MTHRF variants C677T and A1298C (this test was done in 2008).

I was prescribed and am taking Folgard RX.

Does these results severly increase the chances of autism in offspring?

Does the fact that I am taking Folgard RX help?

I beleive that taking a methylated Folate will significantly reduce the contribution that MTFHR has towards autism. But please read the article closely(I know its very long) it mentions that just having the mutation alone is not a significant risk as most with the mutation DO NOT have a child with autism . It is pretty clear that their must be other contributing factors (most likely an underlying inflammatory or immune issue as well as a fetal predisposition ) , we are hard at work tyring to uncover these issues.
