I have been diagnosed with ANA and Hashimoto's. I also have been diagnosed with chronic endometritis, adenomyosis and endo.

I have weaned prednisone from 20mg to 15mg. Why does antibody issues not matter when one is in the second trimester or third trimester?

On another board, some one said she weaned from prednisone and she had partial placental abruption. That is what I am concerned about. What do you think?

I don't have high blood pressure. I measure it every day. So far my blood sugar is okay. I think this is the main reason that prednisone is weaned at about 12-14 weeks. But if I do not have any of these issues is it safe to carry on prednisone throughout pregnancy.

Thank you.

First in your case I cant comment since I dont have all the facts that I need to formulate an opinion about the treatment. Prednisone does not cross the placenta in large amounts until later in the second trimester , when the enzyme that normally breaks it down and prevents if from crossing the placenta to the baby is no longer active. Large amounts of prednisone crossing the placenta can cause other issues including toxemia.

Most of our thinking is that once the plecanta is well formed the immune system does not pose as much of a threat. There are certain cases where we have continued IVIG when we thought there might be a risk later in the pregnancy due to elevated immune parameters and a history of a late loss or complication.
