Hi Dr. Braverman,

The pharmacist dispensing the Intralipids read a statement to me that safety of the intralipids has not been established in pregnant women and the effect to the fetus is unknown.

She also told me that intralipids given to pregnant animals showed adverse effects on their babies.

What can you tell us to assure us the intralipids will not harm our babies?

Thanks,

Mickie

Animal studies are good but most of the time the doses they use are thousands of times larger than what we use. Remember someone can get water intoxication and die from too much water , but a glass is harmless.
We have years of safety records with IL that the pharmacist doesnt have at his disposal. Not of the studies done in pregnant "humans" has ever shown and adverse affect and that has been my experience as well.

Hi Dr. Braverman,If I did one single intralipid infusion on CD6 and fell pregnant on CD 18 (and
didn't do any infusions while actually pregnant)..would that CD6 infusion
affect/expose the fetus to any theoretical harm?

Thanks,Mickie

I dont believe it would harm you at anytime. If you only take one dose and it works then you most likely didnt need it at all. Please now why you are using the medication then use it properly.
