Dear Dr Braverman

I am very interested in using neupogen injections to get pregnant, but how do we know its safe for the baby to be exposed in the first trimester?

I think its been given a cat C US FDA rating because it caused problems for baby rabbits and the human studies looking at pregnant ladies have been quite small.

Obviously, you must think that the risk to baby is quite small compared to the benefit of (finally) being able to get/stay pregnant, but do you have any extra reasons why you can be sure it will be safe?

Do your patients normally have to sign any sort of disclaimer when they are prescribed neupogen?

I know I am probably worrying unnecessarily, but I just want to understand the risks better.

Thanks again.

To date no one that has used nuepogen including myself and those in Europe have reported any fetal or maternal complications at the doses recommended. It has been used in Europe since mid 1990s. That is the only way to make a judgement about its safety in humans. yes my patients do have to sign a consent and read the study and all side affects before we will prescribe it. Hope that helps.

does that mean you've already had a lot of neupogen babies delivered following treatment in your clinic?

thanks again
