POOR TRANSITION TO UTERINE DECIDUAL CELLS AS A CAUSE OF RPL

New studies show that many cases of Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL) may be related to failure of the endometrial cells to properly change or "decidualize". It's this change in the cells that seems to bring about the production of many chemicals that assist with the implantation process. It has been shown that abnormal embryos (genetically abnormal) fail to bring about the necessary changes in the endometrial tissue. It has also been shown in isolated cases that even normal embryos can sometimes acquire inherent defects in the endometrial cells preventing them from undergoing the necessary changes.

This has led us to conclude that there is a window of receptivity in these decidual cells, and if they are not functioning correctly from the very beginning of implantation then many of the pregnancies will fail.
At Braverman IVF & Reproductive Immunology we have concluded that treatment has to be timed accordingly, and that in some cases it's important to start many of the endometrial modulating agents well ahead of implantation to assist in this conversion. These agents include medications such as Lovenox, prednisone and even G-CSF.
