Dear Dr Braverman

I love your reading your forum!

I think you mentioned that you now test for IL17 along with other cytokines. I read some articles about IL17 and the TH17 cells that produce it that suggest its not helpful to have high levels of IL17 and that sometimés, a rise in blood IL17 during early pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage.

I think both steroids and NSAIDS can be used to reduce IL17. So would you try steroids (e.g,. prednisolone) or NSAIDS (e.g., celecoxib) or both, if you are worried about an elevated IL17?

If there is a deficiency of immuno regulatory cells e.g., suggested by a high blood CD4/CD8 or a diminished fox P3 in endometrial biopsy or a low peripheral blood CD56bright/dim ratio, could steroids make this worse by further suppression of immunoregulatory cells? Or do steroids selectively reduce only the more cytotoxic cells and not the helpful immunoregulatory cells?

Apologies if these are dumb questions, but I was just trying to understand a bit more.

Thanks yet again!

carnelian

yes prednisone is selective so it can be used for elevated IL17 without diminishin FoxP3 T regs cells. Also please be aware that the counting of fox P3 on endo biopsy is still in infancy stage and not reliable as we figure out a way to quantify the cells from such a small sampling.

thank you!

do NSAIDs help diminish IL17 inflammation too?

thanks again!

no good data on that. I would suspect it would.
